Declawing

Declawing a cat involves the amputation of the entire digital phalanx up to the joint, as it is here that the claw develops.
It is NOT just the removal of the cat’s claws as the term would imply.

The procedure is the equivalent of amputating the ends of human fingers up to the first knuckle joint. This procedure is usually performed on just the front feet therefore involving 10 separate amputations.

Cats, just like human amputees can suffer phantom pains appearing to emanate from those severed limbs for the remainder of their lives.

Declawing is outlawed or banned in many countries except on the grounds of serious medical need as it is considered cruel and inhumane, including Australia, Brasil, Germany, Israel, New Zealand, The United Kingdom and many European countries.
